Solar energy (PV) is already competitive with fossil fuel in many markets and applications. The cost of solar will only decrease further. The current 100Billion$ global market is expected to grow further. Solar energy will become the 'building block' for energy supply in our society. The massive application will lead to numerous new technical and business opportunities. Financial engineering is one of major challenges to bring down the cost of solar energy.

Michael T. Eckhart is a Managing Director and Global Head of Environmental Finance and Sustainability at Citigroup in New York City. In this role he supports Citi's goal to be the leading financial services firm in renewable energy, energy efficiency, clean water and related areas, serving clients with corporate banking, investment banking, equity and debt capital markets, global transaction services, trade finance and private banking. He is one of the world's leaders in Renewable Energy, with 40 years of experience and involvement in Renewable and solar energy in both technical and financial positions.
From 2001 to 2011, Mr. Eckhart was founding President of the American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE).He received a degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
