Agnes Utunga Phiri Business Development Manager at Afroes Transformational Games

Agnes Utunga Phiri is the Business Development Manager and partner with Afroes – short for African Heroes. Afroes is a digital gamification and technology company that creates and distributes uniquely African mobile games-based applications and solutions for social agencies, corporate enterprises and governments keen to reach Youth Users. Prior to joining Afroes Agnes had a long term career with UNDP as a Communications Specialist spanning over 15 years and thereafter consulted with UN Women Southern Africa on Advocacy issues to promote the ending violence against women and girls; ILO Southern Africa on the promotion of Maternity Protection for informal workers and with ACE Consultancies Europe in Belgium on Assessing the role and impact of media reporting on outcome of fair results of the 2011 Zambia Presidential elections. Agnes has coordinated, co-edited and produced a number of publications: Opportunities and Challenges of using ICT for improved public sector performance (Case Studies Malawi, Zambia and Lesotho); Best Practice Documentation on Providing Integrated Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV Services for Swaziland Family Life Association Swaziland; Guide/Manual on Providing and Implementing Sexual Reproductive Health and HIV Services; and UNDP Capacity Utilization of National Volunteers for Mitigating HIV/AIDS in Zambia. Agnes has also previously owned, managed and later sold a travel agent that promoted regional tour packages in southern Africa for USA and European Markets. Agnes has been awarded the UNDP Performance Award for Outstanding and Exceptional Work and contribution to Global Development on two occasions. She has been a finalist for the South Africa 2005 “Women at Work” Award Ceremony which pays tribute to working women who take ownership of excellence in the workplace, promotion of women issues, demonstrate tenacity, are committed to success and make the business environment better in many ways.
